5 uses of natural honey in our family

Honey is not just a better way to sweeten your tea. As it is proven within our household, natural honey is one of the most versatile, not to mention yummiest, products that has become an essential in our cupboard. Here are just a few of the typical uses of the natural honey within our family that you might enjoy too:

1. Spread it on your toast or inside a croissant for breakfast.

Not only a healthier sugar to kick start your day. We also find that flavoursome natural honeys with their layers of flavours and textures from a variety of flowers have no equals at wakening your tastebuds. (Our little one licks the honey off the toast and leaves the toast behind...)

2. Pour it over your natural Greek yoghurt with some fresh fruit or berries!

Mix it!.. and indulge in all the benefits of nature! For added crunch and flavours, packed with vitamins, sprinkle some pollen on top (soon to arrive to our virtual shelves). Perfect for breakfast or midday dessert... and it looks almost too pretty to eat! yoghurt, honey, pollen in a bowl

3. Use it in your baking and desserts

Try substituting a part of sugar (50g or so) in your cake recipe for 1-2 tablespoons of honey. It might just become that signature touch of your baking that everyone will wonder about... all that added texture, tanginess.. Yum!

We also pour honey over our desserts that normally would use a sprinkle of sugar, e.g. crêpes with curd filling and honey (recipe to follow soon) crepes with cream, bluberries and honey

4. Feel a bit sluggish between the meals? Fancy something sweet?

Have a spoonful (or two!) of a Wild hives natural honey! Tastier than a candy, natural sugars in honey guarantee to give your energy a boost, while vitamins and nutrients in honey will transform your sweet treat snack of the day into your daily vitamin pill!

5. Change of seasons... flu season... low energy... intense stressful days... or maybe just a hangover...

All of these things (and many more) make your immune system weak and vulnerable. Our family has found one universal method to defend ourselves in shaky times: GINGER AND LEMON INFUSION, with a spoonful of natural honey, of course.

Boil couple of cupfuls of water, grate a chunk of ginger into it and let it simmer for a while (5-10 min - the longer the stronger it will be), pour it into mugs, squeeze half a lemon into each and add a spoonful of honey. Sip it slowly and feel this tingling feeling of liveliness flooding back into your body.

If you like it as much as we do and thinking of having it often, you can grate a big piece of ginger, mix it with quite a few generous dollops of honey, squeeze couple of lemons in, put it all in a jar and keep it in a fridge. When in need of some energy boost or a cold defence or just fancy a hot drink that is not your usual English tea, put a couple of spoonfuls of the mixture in a mug and pour some hot water over.
